Criterion CNC boring systems

Criterion International designs and manufactures a complete line of CNC production boring systems.

The following selection is a sampling of some of the Criterion's products:

SGL/DBL Boring Heads

The SGL/DBL boring head bodies provide a full-size mating surface for the shank. These heads are available in various sizes depending on the boring range needed. The TA/TAS and Crosshole boring bars can be used in these heads for a variety of boring operations. The heads have direct reading micrometer dial screws for making adjustments of 0.01mm radially or 0.02mm on the bore. All of the heads have threaded backs that can take any of the shanks available from Criterion.

CRI-BORE boring systems

The Cri-Bore system uses the same bodies and dial screws as the SGL/DBL heads shown above. The bar holders have been replaced with inserts holders that can accept a variety of triangular shape chip control indexable inserts. The standard units adjust in increments of 0.02mm on the bore. The "TA" (tenth adjustment) insert holders can be adjusted in increments of 0.001mm using the fine adjusting dial screw. To extend the bore depth of these units intermediate adapters are available in various diameters and lengths.

CRI-TWIN dual insert boring systems

The Cro-Twin dual insert boring system combines Criterion's proven dovetail/micrometer dial screw design with the material removal efficiency of a double cutter system. Each insert holder is independently adjustable in increments of 0.02mm or 0.05mm depending on the unit size. Two insert holders are available for each of the five sizes - a standard length and one 1mm shorter in length. The different length insert holders can be interchanged to give different configurations. These insert holders take 80 degree diamond shaped indexable inserts.

MD adjustable boring bars

The MD adjustable boring bars are specially suited for machining centres. When used in end mill holders or collet holders these bars provide an adjustable and very rigid set-up. Each graduation on the dial screw moves the insert 0.05mm on the bore. Precise adjustments are easily made while the bar is in the machine or in the tool block of a presetter.

The cantilevered dovetail design assures maximum rigidity, even in an off-set position. A top locking screw - easily accessible - firmly secures the insert holder when boring. The clamping mechanism uses a new wedge design that provides a very rigid lock, even with the heaviest cut.

The insert holder accepts a variety of triangular shaped inserts in various chip control styles and radii.

MICRO FINE adjusting boring heads

The Micro Fine adjusting boring heads feature two micrometer dial screws. The main dial screw is direct reading and is graduated in increments of 0.02mm on the bore. The fine adjusting dial screw, also direct reading, is capable of movement in increments of 0.001mm. This very close and accurate movement is accomplished by using a unique single sliding wedge concept. The design provides a boring head whose features of reliability and ease of operation make it easy to maintain close tolerance and absolute size control. A variety of boring bars, shanks and adapters is available for these heads..

76F-HBMD CNC boring & facing heads

Criterion has taken the popular and proven 76F-HBMD manual boring & facing head and adapted it to operate on a machining centre. Using a unique "stop arm attachment" the head can be activated to feed forward or reverse and return to its original position, ready to repeat its movement.

The forward mode (moving from the inside to the outside) or the reverse mode (moving from the outside to the inside) can be activated to perform the following operations: facing, grooving, boring, back-facing, undercutting and counter-boring. Using the adjustable stops on the head the forward and reverse movement can be controlled to within 0.025mm.

The CNC facing head features a gear driven system that generates a continuous feed rate of 0.08mm per revolution. A fine feed model is also available with a feed rate of 0.04mm per revolution.
