PARAGON universal cylindrical grinders utilizes a hydrostatic bearing type wheel spindle. This design offers the same features as a hydrodynamic bearing design plus the following outstanding features: no metal-to-metal friction, no overheating and no oil leakage, since no oil is used. It makes the spindle run very smooth, light, with high accuracy and longevity. The hydrostatic lubrication on the slide ways ensures consistent accuracy.
The wheel head is composed of two sections: a sub-slide mounted on the V and flat shaped pressure-lubricated slide ways on a fixed base and a swiveling wheel head body, supported by the sub slide.
The grinding wheel and guard can be mounted on the right side of the wheel head for angular grinding.
The wheel head can be moved back manually by 3.7", providing extra capacity for large diameter components and for internal grinding.
The grinding wheel spindle, set in bearings, is driven through v-shaped belts by a powerful 5hp motor. Two grinding wheel speeds can be obtained by means of pulley change, permitting selection of suitable surface speeds for wheel diameters from 14" to 8.7". The smallest grinding wheel can grind components larger than 0.79" in diameter.
features
solid universal work head
* precisely aligned solid universal work head providing solid support to ensure accurate grinding results in various operations
* graduated swivel base for easy swiveling up to 90 degree toward wheel head and up to 30 degree away from wheel head
* dynamically balanced motor to deliver adequate power for various work diameters at all speeds
* work head spindle speed 10 - 250 rpm controlled by inverter
* automatic start - stop control in conjunction with automatic advance - retraction of wheel head
* work inching by pushbutton to ensure easy checking of component mounted between centers or on chuck
* combination live and dead spindle providing quick exchangeability from center to chuck operation or vice versa
quick acting foot stock
* precisely aligned foot stock providing solid support to ensure accurate grinding results
* precision axial movement of center in the precisely machined sleeve
* lever-clamping for quick movement of foot stock to the desired position along table
* quick acting retraction of center by a spring-loaded lever
* spindle can be locked at fully retracted position, so it does not move unexpectedly
* sensitive adjustment of center position by screw at the rear end of the foot stock
* spring-tension adjustment by screw to get suitable center pressure for the component
* double protection by covers and bellows against intrusion of coolant or dust
swivel table and slide table
Structurally rigid swivel table is arranged to swivel in counterclockwise directions by a screw-adjustment at the left end of the table. A graduated scale on the end of the slide table is calibrated in degree for approximate angular setting. A dial indicator attachment is effective for fine angular setting or taper correction on 0.01mm or 0.001" divisions. Hydraulic traverse speed is adjustable in a range of 50 through 4,000mm (2 through 157") per minute, and its traverse stroke is also adjustable by positioning two dogs. Tarry time is independently adjustable at each stroke end. Both smooth reversal and fine reciprocation of min. 3mm (0.12") allow oscillation grinding.
